Dear Partners,
The Evangelism/Discipleship Model Comes to Cambodia
We are thrilled to share a major milestone: the second phase of our Evangelism/Discipleship model — developed in Cuba — is now launching in Cambodia. The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Cambodia personally invited us to bring this model to his country. In the enclosed photos, you’ll see us meeting with him and 30 of his leaders to present the model and lay out how it will be implemented across his districts and presbyteries.
Why a New Approach to Discipleship?
Until now, follow-up with new believers in Cambodia has fallen entirely on Pastors and Evangelists. After 30 years of ministry experience, we’ve seen that Pastors are stretched thin with existing responsibilities, and Evangelists are most fruitful when they’re free to do what they do best — evangelizing.
How the Model Works
The solution, proven in Cuba, is simple: each church identifies 1 to 3 leaders — not the Pastor or Evangelist — who have a teaching gift or natural leadership qualities. We train these individuals to follow up with new believers and plant Discipleship Groups in homes. After three months, those new believers decide to either join the mother church as a group (celebrated during a church service) or continue as a house church under their Disciplers’ oversight — functioning as both a church plant and an evangelistic outreach center in the community.
Training in Action & A New Church Near the Thailand Border
The enclosed photos show this training process in action, using equipment made possible by your generous giving. The man in blue is the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God in Cambodia.
Additionally, one of our donors has committed funds to build a church near the Thailand border — an area experiencing recent tensions between the two countries. Enclosed you’ll also find photos of the construction progress.
Thank You for Making This Possible
We give God all glory for these advances, and we are deeply grateful to each of you who has given to make this work possible. It is a privilege to be advancing the Kingdom of God alongside you.
“How can they believe without hearing, and how can they hear without someone being sent?” — Romans 10:14
It is an honor to serve alongside each of you. Please continue to pray for our work in Cambodia, Brazil, and our ongoing efforts to reach Cuba with the Gospel. We are grateful for every one of you!
Blessings,
Will and Cristen Bridges
