Finding My True Heart’s Desire

When I was 17, I had the privilege of going to Guatemala for a week with Bridges for Life Ministries. At first, I was afraid to go. I had never been out of the country before. I am so happy I did, because it changed my life forever.

We went to a small village about an hour outside of Guatemala City called Xenacoj. The people of Xenacoj were of Mayan decent, and mostly lived in huts made of clay, branch, and what looked like old pieces of scrap metal. Xenacoj was absolutely beautiful, but also very poverty stricken. I had never saw anything like it before, in more ways than one.

Every morning, we would travel to a different community nearby, and minister to the children that lived there. We would play many different games with them, while also sharing with them the gospel of Jesus Christ (with the help of our fabulous translator, Moriah Bridges!) We also brought them toys to play with, which they were so grateful for.

While our goal there was to teach the kids about the gospel of Jesus, they also taught me a very valuable lesson: to always be grateful for what you have. These children did not have much, but always had a smile on their face no matter what, and were so grateful to just be around each other. It brought so much joy to my heart to be able to provide these children with a fun-filled morning, while also planting the seed of salvation in their lives.

Doing missionary work with Bridges for Life Ministries has been beyond rewarding to me. Through this ministry, I have made lifelong friendships, lifelong memories, and found my true heart’s desire of spreading the gospel to all of the world. In Mark 16:15, the Lord said “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

If you have never been apart of missionary work with Bridges for Life Ministries, I highly encourage you to do so. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please reach out to us and we would be happy to provide more information on some upcoming trips, and other ways to support missions.

1 Peter 4:10:
“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
